The month of January is recognized by the eye care community as Glaucoma Awareness Month and, as we close out January, our practice has put much thought into the importance of expanding readily available glaucoma treatment options to a greater base of patients.
Glaucoma surreptitiously impacts vision by damaging the optic nerve, which takes all the information of vision from the eye to the brain. Rarely does glaucoma cause symptoms until there is extensive damage. Levin Luminais Chronister Eye Associates is delighted to announce that its new office in Berwyn—right on Route 30/Lancaster Avenue—will provide state-of-the art care for glaucoma.
For the diagnosis and care of glaucoma, it is essential to assess both the structure and the function of the optic nerve; our office will feature the most advanced imaging functions available to enhance glaucoma care. OCT is the most sophisticated imaging in eye care, and we utilize the best OCT available anywhere. Visual-field testing will help asses function of the nerve. Together with a comprehensive eye exam and measurement of pressure inside the eye, these modalities allow early detection and on-going monitoring of eye diseases.
Cataracts often (but not always) accompany glaucoma, and our new location will also provide provide comprehensive cataract care and planning for the most sophisticated lens implants when cataract surgery is necessary.
